LaCie’s Ultra-Rugged Waterproof & Crushproof SSD Delivers 8K Playback

LaCie is very well-known in that odd space where top-tier tech and outdoor adventure meet, as they make some of the most rugged digital storage devices around. Well, it looks like they’re expanding their high-end options with the new Rugged SSD Pro.

Small enough to slip into your pocket whether you choose the 1TB or 2TB option, this solid-state drive (SSD) still features everything we’ve come to know and love about LaCie’s offerings. That includes an IP67 protection rating — meaning these drives are dust-proof, crush-resistant, and can be submerged three feet underwater for up to a half-hour. These ones, however, also offer blazing-fast transfer speeds of up to 2800MB/s and can even stream 8K video without the need for transcoding. If LaCie hadn’t already solidified their seat atop the rugged hard drive throne, this offering would have certainly pushed them over the top. Pricing starts at $420.

Purchase: $420+
