Nobody was complaining about LaCie’s already-innovative Rugged Hard Drive lineup, but (as with most things) we’re often our own worst critics. To keep a leg up on the competition, the renowned memory and storage manufacturer has revealed a massive 8TB drive that dwarfs the company’s other offerings — dubbed the RAID Shuttle.
LaCie’s original line of hard drives held their own within the heavy-duty disc drive space, but being the dominant force for expeditionary data storage wasn’t quite enough. The 8TB behemoth doesn’t deviate from the Rugged lineup all that much, sporting the same architecture and durable rubber shell that’s become an iconic symbol of the brand. Inside, however, it takes care of business (literally and figuratively) through the use of a 250 MB/s speed in RAID 0, while an IP54-rated construction keeps the technical bits safe from water and dust. The Shuttle is also impact-resistant up to four feet and features a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (USB Type-C) entry, Thunderbolt 3 capabilities, and AES256-bit hardware encryption for additional privacy and protection. If you think the RAID Shuttle is the quintessential piece of high-tech gear for your everyday endeavors, it’ll release in May with a price tag just shy of $530.
