There are very few bands out there that truly exemplify a musical genre. But there’s no question what band comes to the front of just about everyone’s mind when you mention grunge: Nirvana. Their angsty lyrics and disjointed melodies exemplified everything about the style. Which was thanks in no small part to the contributions of their visionary frontman, Kurt Cobain. Now, the late musician’s would-be 50th birthday is fast approaching and, with it, comes your chance to own a guitar from his private collection – a Hagstrom Blue Sparkle Deluxe Model 90.
Though it is not a guitar you would have seen him play live, its ownership has been authenticated by Cobain guitar expert and primary Nirvana guitar technician Earnie Bailey. The guitar, which was built between ’58 and ’60 – is said to be a Christmas gift he gave himself, was set up for his left-handed style, and even bears wear marks from when he played it. And, having not been played in decades, it’s virtually the same as he left it. Furthermore, a portion of the sale of this guitar, whose auction window falls between the 16th and 26th of this month on eBay, will go to Transition Projects – a nonprofit charity out of Portland which helps house the homeless. Now is your chance to own a piece of Rock history. [Purchase]
