Kawasaki Unveils an MX-Inspired Balance Bike for the Youngest Riders

Kawasaki has long produced pint-sized dirt bikes made specifically for kids and teens, though Team Green is now offering a gateway to riding for an even younger demographic with the release of the all-new Elektrode Balance Bike.

Unlike the balance bikes that we’ve seen from KTM, Husqvarna, and Harley-Davidson — all of which are just existing STACYC models adorned in special liveries — Kawasaki’s balance bike is a completely novel two-wheeler that’s been designed from scratch. The Elektrode is constructed around an aluminum chassis that’s been mated to a rigid 28.8mm steel fork, a rigid tail, and a set of 16” cast wheels. Powering the balance bike is an air-cooled brushless in-wheel direct hub EIWOL electric motor that offers three power modes — 5mph, 7.5mph, and 13mph. This allows budding riders to start small, with manageable amounts of power before working their way up to higher speeds.

Made for riders ages three to eight, Kawasaki’s new balance bike weighs in at only 32lbs, though can support riders of up to 99.5lbs. The Elektrode draws from an in-frame, 250-watt, 36-volt Lithium-ion battery that offers 150 minutes of ride time and requires roughly 2.5 hours of charging for a full recharge. Affording 5.5” of ground clearance, the balance bike also boasts a 32.75” wheelbase and an adjustable seat height ranging from 16.1” up to 20.5”. Braking is handled by a single 160mm rear rotor bit by a mechanical caliper. Cloaked in a classic Kawasaki Green race livery, the Elektrode also features folding foot pegs and an MX-style front number plate.

The 2023 Kawasaki Elektrode Balance Bike is available now, with pricing set at $1,099.
