Put A Smile On Your Face With Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Trailer

Batman’s arch-nemesis, the Joker, is probably the greatest comic book villain of all time. He’s tragic, iconic, and the perfect foil to the Dark Knight. And while he’s been portrayed on screen several different times, with high-caliber actors like Jack Nicholsen and Heath Ledger taking on the role, he’s never quite had a true origin story — until now.

Helmed by Todd Phillips, writer-director of films such as The Hangover and Old School, there’s been some speculation as to whether this flick can really capture the spirit of The Clown Prince of Crime. That’s doubly true when you consider that it’s only tangentially related to the source material, as Phillips has said it isn’t based on any existing work. But this final trailer — which echoes of crime-thrillers like Taxi Driver and American Psycho — looks extremely promising. Alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role, the film also stars Robert DeNiro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, Francis Conroy, and more. ‘Joker’ hits theaters on October 4th.
