Even with the revival of iconic 4x4s like the Chevy Blazer, the Ford Bronco, and the Land Rover Defender, many automotive enthusiasts remain captivated by such vehicles in their original guise. Chalk it up to some sepia-tinged nostalgia if you will, but it’s resulted in some pretty remarkable restomod projects, with the latest amongst them being this classic Grand Wagoneer by Texas-based Jeep specialist Vigilante.
In order to prep the vintage SUV for its restoration, Vigilante first disassembles the donor in its entirety. From there, the body is stripped, repaired, and repainted, with a good dose of rust prevention for some added long-term reliability. Then, rather than rebuilding the vehicle atop its original chassis, Vigilante instead uses its own proprietary platform that’s been re-engineered for improved strength and handling. Moreover, it fits the Grand Wagoneer with a slew of modern suspension components, including Eibach coil-overs, adjustable Fox Racing shocks, and Baer 6 piston brakes. Add to that three powerful engine options — ranging from a 485hp HEMI V8 all the way up to a 1,000hp Hellephant V8 — and the result is a Jeep that stays true to its roots while taking its off-road performance to the next level. Build one for yourself starting at $295,000.
