Nostalgia-Inducing Footage of Kanye Arises in Trailer for Netflix’s ‘jeen-yuhs’
Whether you love him or hate him, Kanye West’s imprint on pop culture is indisputable. Serving as the sheer embodiment of polarization, the producer-turned-artist-turned-sneaker-mogul has made a plethora of bold statements throughout his illustrious career. While many of them have already been exhaustively documented, the self-proclaimed genius is now receiving his own docu-series. Rightfully (and phonetically) titled jeen-yuhs, the Netflix exclusive has been in the making for decades.
Spanning over 21 years of Kanye’s career, noteworthy moments that appear in this minute-long glimpse include the rapper practicing his cadence through a busted jaw, his ubiquitous sequence of jubilation alongside protégé Kid Cudi, and a clip of his boyhood home that appeared in his DONDA listening events. Speaking of which, his late mother, Donda West, also makes a brief appearance in the trailer, as we can surely expect her to do so over the course of this forthcoming, three-episode docuseries. On top of that, a handful of the rapper’s industry counterparts also appear throughout this montage of never-before-seen footage, most notably, West’s mogul and mentor in Jay-Z, as well as Pharrell Williams, a comparable icon in West’s fields of music and fashion. From studio footage to iconic performances, we are in for quite an extensive behind-the-scenes look at Mr. West.
Directed and curated by Coodie and Chike, a pair of documentary filmmakers and music video directors, the series will be refreshing to catch a glance of Kanye before the limelight, as well as his full-fledged nosedive into the world of celebrity. jeen-yuhs has been described as a “three-week global event,” and it is set to appear on Netflix starting February 16th.
