Since 2013, IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN has been producing limited-edition variants of its already-stunning Pilot’s watch, bestowing the automatic timepieces with a host of custom touches—including a trademark blue dial—as well as an added air of exclusivity. The latest limited-edition run from IWC sees the elite Swiss watchmaker honor French airman and author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s legendary work, The Little Prince, with a special-edition version of the IWC Big Pilot’s watch.
Paired with a military-inspired quad-stud brown Santoni calfskin leather band, the watch is beautifully constructed around a 46.2mm brushed stainless steel case complementing a striking blue dial and an oversized screw-down crown. At the heart of this limited edition horological offering is an in-house 52110 caliber movement with a Pellaton automatic winding system, a 200’ water-resistance rating, and a full seven-day power reserve — monitored via a 3 o’clock position sub-dial. Other noteworthy elements include a soft-iron inner case that protects the movement from interference from magnetic fields, and the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock markers are all luminescent, as is the signature IWC triangle logo and the watch’s triangular minute and hour hands. There’s also a date window and a special edition case back that’s engraved with a classic image of Le Petit Prince complete with cape and sword, replacing the image of the Junkers JU-52 that adorns the back of the regular Big Pilot’s Watch. Available now through MR PORTER, the IWC Big Pilot’s Le Petit Prince Automatic Watch is priced at $15,870 and includes a special presentation box and an eight-year warranty.
