Ordering pre-fabricated homes isn’t new. People have been doing it since the early 1900s when Sears first started listing them in their famous catalog. As time has gone on, the quality of these homes has improved hugely, and the green-design IT House might just be at the pinnacle of that progress.

With a modern design, these customizable homes are made from high quality and sustainable materials that are manufactured off-site and assembled quickly wherever you want to set down roots. The main elements of the IT House are a flexible aluminum frame made for structure and wall framing, an acoustic steel deck roof, panelized walls, and built in cabinets. The house utilizes site orientation, special materials like floor heating and high efficiency appliances to keep your footprint small. All the elements are designed so they can be easily moved around into a unique configuration. The basic component package comes with 2 beds, 1 bath, a double courtyard all measuring in at 1,200 square-feet. Because each house is built custom, prices vary, but the average cost per-square-foot is just around $20. If you’d like to test drive one before committing, you can book a night via Airbnb.
