InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland Hotel In China

There’s certainly no lack of architectural wonder in China, especially when it comes to lavish, luxurious hotels. One of the country’s most ambitious hoteliers is showing the world that there can always be a bigger, better experience when it comes to dreamlike retreats with its newest offering, the Shanghai Wonderland Hotel.

Built on the remains of an age-old rock quarry, InterContinental’s latest 377-room endeavor utilizes a truly unique construction that allows its top two stories to sit just above the quarry-line. The other 17 floors are drawn vertically down the cliff and into the canyon below. It even features an underground area that plays host to a variety of accommodations like a watersports complex, a pool, and a restaurant. Above ground, there’s an extreme sports complex that’s cantilevered just above the quarry and a stretching glass atrium that’s meant to mimic the natural waterfall found just down the cliffside.
