Since 2008, IKEA has stood as the largest furniture retailer on the planet. With the advent and integration of smart home tech increasingly permitting this space, the Swedish furniture superstore has been taking the necessary steps to remain at the forefront of this rapidly evolving industry via the debut of a host of new products with integrated smart tech — the latest of which is a modern bedside table with a built-in air purifier known as the “STARKVIND.”

Optimized for apartments and smaller dwellings of around 215-square-feet, the STARKVIND features an advanced triple filtration system with a pre-filter, a particle remover filter, and a micro airborne particle filter that can capture dust, pollen, and other contaminants — effectively eliminating some 99.5% of all airborne particles. The STARKVIND also packs five different adjustable fan speeds, plus an auto mode, in which a built-in air quality sensor takes live readings and then adjusts the purifier as needed. This forthcoming item is also compatible with IKEA’s TRÅDFRI smart home gateway and can be controlled through the proprietary app, and will be produced in two versions, a freestanding unit, and a variant that’s built into an end table. Though pricing has yet to be revealed, IKEA says the STARKVIND will go on sale starting in October of 2021.
