If the Icon name sounds familiar to you then you’re definitely not mistaken. Yes, Jonathan Ward of Icon 4×4 has in fact designed a watch inspired by the original Duesenberg tachometer. The result is a handsome minimalist timepiece, unlike anything we’ve seen before. Frankly, it’s not much of a surprise that Ward – when not building some of the most off-road capable 4×4 vehicles around – happens to collect watches in his spare time. And it was that very passion for vintage vehicles that led him to design such a watch.
The movement powering this watch is a Dubois-Depraz Automatic 14400 module with an ETA 2892-A2 top base and comes equipped with a custom-made oscillating weight built from tungsten alloy complete with yellow gold plated markings and a brass applied lizard on the back. The dial is also made from polished onyx stone and hosts two frames in polished brass while a genuine alligator leather strap rounds everything out beautifully. Additionally, each watch boasts a polished grade 5 titanium bezel, double domed sapphire crystal, and a sandblasted grade 2 titanium case body, back, and tongue buckle. It’s a project that’s been years in the making, but finally available for purchase with delivery expected for early 2018.
