This Ultralight Dyneema Backpack Is Made For Minimalist Mountaineers

When it comes to mountaineering gear, it always seems like we’re making an inevitable sacrifice — choosing between functionality and weight. But thanks to intrepid designers and clever modern engineering, that could be coming to an end. Or at least that’s what we’re discovering courtesy of the folks at Hyperlite Mountain Gear and their new Junction backpacks.

This new pair of bags — your choice of 40L or 55L varieties — was designed specifically with diversity in mind. That means these bags are less about distance traveled and more about the ever-changing landscape and conditions. To cope with such adventures, it’s constructed from ultra-durable waterproof Dyneema — which also helps cut down the weight to a grand total of 1.88- and 2.00-pounds, respectively. On top of that, the bags are also equipped with a mesh external pouch, dual solid-panel Hardline with Dyneema pockets on the sides, a built-in compression system, a hydration sleeve, and even an ice axe loop. Of course, like all of HMG’s gear, these adventure bags are also built entirely in the USA. They’re priced at $310 and $345.

Purchase: $310+
