Every whiskey aficionado can appreciate expensive top-shelf stuff like Michter’s, Russel’s Reserve, or Pappy’s. However, for some, it’s less about the spirit’s status than it is about the experience’s intimacy. The folks at Huckberry find themselves squarely within the latter group, so when Buffalo Trace approached them with an offer to select their very own barrel of bourbon, it was an opportunity too good to pass up.
The process started with a video call and three bottles of bourbon allocated to each of Huckberry’s appointed tasters. Each bottle corresponded to an individual barrel — 124, 136, or 260 — and it was subject to two tastings: one neat and one with water. 260 was immediately ruled out because it needed more time to age; however, 124 and 136 warranted more discussion to determine which was the winner. While 136 was a competitive choice in its own right, those drinking ultimately decided that it was something of an acquired taste — too polarizing to be a true crowd-pleaser. Which left barrel 124. With plenty of sweetness to start and a nice, gradual finish, it proved an easy sipper and a clear favorite. But the best part is, Huckberry is holding a giveaway, and 2 lucky winners will take home a bottle for themselves. Enter for a chance to try it yourself at Huckberry now.
