While there are a few big contenders in the space, the HTC Vive series of virtual reality headsets has consistently ranked amongst the best available. And now another impressive entry has been added to their ranks with category-topping HTC VIVE Cosmos.
Unveiled at this year’s CES, this premium PC VR system has some jaw-dropping features that make it perhaps the best consumer headset currently in existence. That includes a dual-LCD display that boasts a whopping combined resolution of 2880 x 1700 — which is 88% better than the original. That resolution is partnered with a bonkers 90FPS frame rate, 40% better lens clarity (thanks to an abundance of subpixels) for less of that annoying “screen door” effect, and an all-new VIVE tracking system that makes for a quick-and-easy sensor-free setup for near-immediate video gaming. Best of all, this new kit was designed with modularity and upgrades in mind — meaning it’s got a measure of future-proofing to ensure it isn’t obsolete in a manner of months. There’s no price information or release date yet, but we can expect to see this hit shelves before the end of the year.
