Honda’s Garage Dreams Contest Includes 38 Custom CB650R Moto Builds

For the second year in a row, Honda is holding its Garage Dreams custom motorcycle build-off, in which 38 dealerships from the Big Red’s Spanish and Portuguese retail network will compete to see who can build the best-customized version of Honda’s CB650R. The public can then vote online for their favorite build before the winner will be crowned on May 4, 2020.

Starting with the mid-sized (649cc) member of Honda’s neo-classic range, the 2020 Honda garage Dreams contest limits each builder to a budget of €4,000 ($4,335) — half of which can be spent on parts while the other half has to go to the paint job. Ultimately, this allows the contest to serve as a clever marketing tool for the Japanese motorcycle brand, demonstrating the CB650R’s potential as a platform for customization using a budget that’s accessible to the average rider. Of the entries for 2020, there’s a wide range of build genres on display from trackers to scramblers to cafe racers, as well as numerous nods to other iconic Honda bikes such as its Dakar racers, its RC213V MotoGP bike, and it’s legendary RC30 superbike.
