When it was founded in 1950, the Hobie Cat Company was little more than a humble surfboard side project based out of the Atler family garage. However, since that time, it’s become one of the most respected names in water sports, with a diverse lineup that spans everything from sailboats to stand-up paddleboards.
For 2021, Hobie has expanded its offerings to include an assortment of inflatables it’s calling the Mirage iTrek series. Headlining the range is the Fiesta, a massive multiperson pedal kayak that has room for up to four passengers as well as a few coolers and pets. With its lightweight triple-chamber construction, easy-to-use steering system, and swiveling front seats, it’s unlike anything else on the market. At the other end of the spectrum, you’ll find the Mirage iTrek 9 Ultralight, a svelte single person kayak purpose-built for travel. Packing down into the size of a checked bag and weighing just 20lbs, it makes for an offering that’s incredibly easy to transport. Within the rest of the iTrek series, there’s also a standard kayak, a classic tandem, and an innovative standup pedalboard. They’ll be available at select Hobie dealers from $2,199 starting March 2021.
