High West Distillery Bottles Its First-Ever Barrel-Finished Cocktails

Upon its founding in 2006, High West became the first legal distillery in Utah since 1870. And though bringing whiskey production back to the state is in itself quite an accomplishment, they lay claim to an even more noteworthy distinction: the world’s first-ever ski in-ski out distillery. Whether it’s a product of the frontier mindset or just an effect of the altitude, the folks at High West aren’t ones accustomed to complacency.

For its newest venture, High West Distillery is releasing a pair of premium barrel-finished cocktails using its award-winning whiskey. Available in Manhattan and Old Fashioned varieties, these pre-batched icons offer new riffs on some old favorites. For though the former adheres to the time-tested recipe — sweet vermouth, aromatic bitters, and rye — High West barrel-aged the mix for added depth and unrivaled complexity. And while an Old Fashioned is usually a simple, spirit-forward drink, High West felt a similar reboot was in order. Featuring both bourbon and rye whiskeys, and rested in second-used barrels, their rendition takes the classic cocktail to new heights. You find them on the High West Distillery website from $40.
