Herman Miller’s Iconic ’70s ‘Chiclet’ Sofas Return For Your Modern Home

Ever since it originally debuted in 1976, Herman Miller’s Wilkes Modular Sofa has served as one of the furniture industry’s pinnacles of postmodern design. In fact, the Ray Wilkes original has become so iconic that it’s often referred to as the ‘Chiclet sofa’ amongst collectors because of its characteristically gum-shaped cushions.

And now it’s back. After some 45 years, Herman Miller is reintroducing the Wilkes Modular Sofa as an entire collection that includes everything from a compact single chair all the way up to an extended five-seater couch. In keeping with the original, the design will still offer such features as injection-molded foam cushions and optional integrated tables that can be placed according to your preferences. However, Herman Miller has also updated the sofa for the 21st century, making it available with some Maharam textile upholstery. You can buy it today starting at $1,695.

Purchase: $1,695+
