The history of handheld gaming might seem bleak, but it’s no secret that in recent years, things have gotten drastically better for the mobile market. Because of the gaming industry’s preliminary variants, these modern platforms have had more than enough time to evolve and become better — but what happens when we take a look back on the retro examples that started it all? Hasbro might have an answer to the question that nobody asked.
In a recent announcement from the highly-regarded company, it was revealed that Hasbro would, in fact, return to the era of nostalgic portable gaming. Atop Tiger Electronics’ revitalized and resurrected Handheld LCD gaming platforms, players will be able to take part in their favorite games from the ‘80s and ‘90s, all housed within a selection of memorabilia-focused, collectible consoles. Within the collection, traditionally-designed cases paying homage to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Transformers: Generation 2, X-Men Project X, and The Little Mermaid can be found, each with its own thematic art and branding, and period-correct AA battery ports for even more immersion. No release date has been announced, by you cand head over to Gamestop’s website to preorder the resurrected devices for around $15 each.
