Since its debut in 2013, the Royale has quickly emerged as one of GREATS’ hottest-selling sneakers. As such, over the years, the Brooklyn-based brand has put out all sorts of variants in an attempt to better cater the silhouette to customers’ needs, using everything from vegan-friendly knits to ultra-sustainable eco-leather.
For the latest member of the Royale family, GREATS has doubled down on its environmentalist efforts to craft a shoe with 55.8% recycled content by weight. Dubbed, the ‘Royale Tech,’ it features an upper made from nubuck and recycled ripstop, with a bio-based TPU overlay that’s both biodegradable and recyclable. And that’s not all — GREATS also used upcycled garment waste for the stiffeners, as well as the toe box, and opted for heat fusion instead of glue to make them easier to recycle. Riding on a Bloom algae footbed and a repurposed rubber outsole, they come fastened by 100% recycled cotton laces. They’re available in ‘Blanco,’ ‘Cargo,’ and ‘Navy,’ for $159 at the link below.
