Founded in 1953, Grado Labs is a Brooklyn-based boutique, family-owned-and-operated hi-fi headphone and cartridge company renowned for its handmade hi-fi offerings. Despite already producing some of the world’s finest over-ear models, the third-generation family-run American audio brand has now debuted a new and improved range of its best-selling headphones christened the “X Driver Prestige Series.”
Taking its name from Grado’s all-new fourth-generation 44mm “X” drivers, this new collection is comprised of five headphone models, the SR325x, the SR225x, the SR125x, the SR80x, and the SR60x — the first three of which feature eight conductor cables while the latter two boast four-conductor cables. In addition to the new drivers offering superior magnetic power while mitigating the voice coil’s effective mass, each model in the new series also sports reconfigured diaphragms, new, more durable super annealed copper wire-equipped cables, and plusher headbands. From the outside, the Prestige X Series maintains Grado’s signature design aesthetic, while delivering even greater sound than its predecessors, and the more high-end models in the range also feature brushed aluminum housings and genuine leather headbands. Available now, the Grado Labs X Driver Prestige Series is priced at $99 for the SR60x, $125 for the SR80x, $175 for the SR125x, $225 for the SR225x, and $295 for the SR325x.
