GoPro Omni Virtual Reality Camera Rig

For the better part of a year, we’ve been waiting around for GoPro to unveil their VR camera rig. They released the name, “Omni,” back in February but it wasn’t until a couple of days ago that we actually got to feast out eyes on the final product. It’s a bit more accessible that their Odyssey (a previous release featuring 16 cameras with a price tag upwards of $15,000) and features all GoPro cameras.

The Omni uses six black cameras, a cost of about $3000 if bought separately. However, those who are most likely to use the product will probably already have six GoPro’s on hand to fit into the Omni. As for the price of the rig itself, GoPro hasn’t disclosed any information just yet, though similar rigs housing the GoPro camera run for about $600 alone. Regardless, the company’s release of its VR rig will certainly facilitate the production of higher quality and more affordable VR housing in the future. And we can’t wait to see what that brings.
