Gerber G1-001 Custom Knife
Portland-based Gerber makes some of our favorite everyday carry and outdoor gear. So, it’s no surprise that they were bringing something special to this year’s Knife Show. What is a surprise, however, is exactly how special their offering is. Designed to honor American craftsmanship, Gerber has introduced their first in a new line: the G1-001
A part of the brand’s new series of American-made, limited edition, custom yearly offerings, this automatic folding knife is practically a work of art. Based on the brand’s Propel Automatic, the G1-001 features a unique bi-metal blade – featuring an oil-quenched Hitachi Blue core sandwiched by 410 stainless steel that offers superb edge retention and corrosion resistance. It is mated to a handle fitted with custom titanium scales, self-lubricating oil impregnated bronze washers, blue PVD fasteners and spacers, and a black DLC custom plunge lock. All told, this handmade knife requires 9 intensive stages and about 60 hours to craft. But only 20 were made – all to be brought to the 2017 Knife Show and sold there – with all proceeds going to the American Knife & Tool Institute to fund their ongoing fight for knife users’ and manufacturers’ rights.
