As the first legal whiskey distillery in Texas, Garrison Brothers is a name needing no introduction. However, arguably more recognizable is their Cowboy Bourbon, an annual limited-edition cask-strength whiskey that has become the crown jewel of the Garrison Brothers lineup. So desirable is this run of rare whiskey, in fact, that in 2019 the Cowboy Bourbon drive-up release sold out in just 58 minutes.
For this year, Cowboy Bourbon clocks in at an eye-watering 133.9 proof (66.95% alc/vol). Though it’s a touch milder than previous years, 2020 boasts something special — it’s made from 100 of master distiller Donnis Todd’s favorite top-shelf barrels. Harvested from the dregs of each batch Todd tastes (he likes to refer to them as “piggy banks”), Cowboy Bourbon takes the best in whiskey and bottles it straight from the barrel. What results is an uncut and unfiltered bourbon fit only for the toughest of cowboys. Tasting notes for the 2020 release include an aroma of firewater, firewood, and freshly cut cedar, along with unexpected sweet flavors of caramel candy, toasted figs, and scorched molasses. 1,000 bottles of Cowboy Bourbon will be available at the drive-thru purchase event on Saturday, September 26, with a further 5,768 bottles distributed across 35 states. Act fast because it will sell out.
