Framework Built A Modular Laptop You Can Upgrade & Service Yourself

A new startup called Framework has its sights set on revolutionizing the consumer electronics industry by creating a premium laptop that’s customizable, upgradeable, and most notably, easy to repair yourself. And judging from the specs, it looks like the company might just succeed in its lofty mission.

The Framework Laptop is based on a modular concept, with the display, keyboard, battery, magnetic bezel, and other parts all easy to swap out. The laptop also has a highly-innovative port system with its expansion cards. The interchangeable cards contain ports like USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, and MicroSD, and they can all be customized and easily swapped out to suit your needs or update when new tech becomes available. Even the computer’s entire mainboard will be able to be swapped out when upgraded versions arrive, and every repair is made to be simple enough for the user to do without assistance. As for the machine’s specs, it’s a highly-capable machine, boasting a 13.5-inch display, 11th-Gen Intel Core processors, and a built-in 1080p 60fps webcam with privacy switches for the camera and microphone. No price has been announced as of yet, but the Framework Laptop is expected to begin shipping this summer.
