Flaviar & WhistlePig Crowdsourced A Special Edition Blended Whiskey

Some years ago, there was a huge boom in the popularity and availability of at-home beer brewing. And while the popularity has definitely petered off, there are still plenty of available kits out there for beer lovers. Unfortunately, home distilling whiskey is an altogether more difficult and less-attainable prospect. However, there are other options for those who want to try their hand at crafting spirits. For instance, Flaviar and WhistlePig offered up an at-home blenders kit just last month.

These kits allowed imbibers and blenders alike to craft their own experimental whiskey blends — along with tasting notes to be sent back to WhistlePig and Flaviar. However, it’s what the two brands are doing with that information that excites us now. To be released on an extremely limited basis, the most popular and positive fan-written at-home tasting notes have been pared into a limited-edition blended spirit called HomeStock Whiskey. Available later this month, the Flaviar x WhistlePig HomeStock Whiskey will sell for $73 a bottle — of which 20% will go toward a non-profit providing relief to out-of-work bartenders. As is the case with most WhistlePig releases, these bottles are likely to fly off the shelves.
