There was a time – a very long time – where snowshoes consisted of a basic handmade wooden frames and some kind of woven mesh. Even as technology advanced, the format of these winter accessories changed little outside of the inclusion of metal frames and synthetic meshes. The folks at Norse brand Fimbulvetr, however, were not content with convention and have taken it upon themselves to revolutionize the snowshoe. And their design brilliance can be seen in their newest release, the TANKR heavy duty snowshoe.

Precision machined from DuPont Hytrel TPC-ET – an extremely tough and versatile thermoplastic elastomer – these snowshoes are built to tackle any winter terrain, from rocky peaks to icy basins. Their unique design features built-in stainless steel crampons for extra grip, an elongated body for enhanced capacity (352 pounds, to be exact), and the brand’s proprietary hinge and rocker design for easy and enhanced maneuverability. They’re also made from eco-friendly materials and the brand offers a lifetime warranty on every set sold. They retail for $300. [Purchase]
