There are many different art forms — each with their own unique intricacies, histories, and stories. While typography and letterpress might not strike as broad of an audience as fine art, its appeal is understood by a very specific subset of designers. Now, Field Notes hopes to shed more light on the craft through its 48th Quarterly Limited Edition notebook capsule, the “United States Of Letterpress.”
Emphasizing immaculate design and beautiful linework, the United States Of Letterpress collection features work from nine independent letterpress shops across the country. After joining forces with the east coast’s Finch Paper, and the great lakes’ French Paper Company, Field Notes shipped each of the nine shops a variant of its colored cover stock, specifying the use of two unique ink colors — Rubine Red and Process Blue — for the collection. As a result, a series of remarkable notebooks illustrating each outfit’s personal heritage, tradition, and tastes were created. Depending on the pack they choose, buyers will be able to acquire a collectible trio of letterpress notebooks from Full-Circle Press, Genghis Kern, Mama’s Sauce, Springtide Press, Brad Vetter, Ben Blount, Rick Griffith, Erin Beckloff, and Starshaped Press, with each example featuring a bespoke flyleaf from Skylab Letterpress. The United States of Letterpress collection is available through Field Notes’ $110 seasonal subscription program, allowing interested parties to acquire each capsule as it releases in the winter, spring, and summer. However, if you’re only interested in a specific pack, it’ll run you $13.
