A handful of times a year, American stationary brand Field Notes releases its quarterly series of EDC notepads. Each set is always masterfully assembled using a five-pocket saddle stitcher and colored with soy-based inks in Waukegan, Illinois. This past spring’s edition featured a yellow floral debossed set, followed by the limited-edition National Parks series. Now that summer has arrived, Field Notes has just unveiled its summer quarterly, which pays homage to the Great Lakes.
With its Chicago office located only a couple of miles from Lake Michigan, Field Notes has released a set of 5 memo books; one for each lake. Consisting of Lake Superior, Erie, Huron, Ontario, and Michigan, the Great Lakes make up the largest group of freshwater lakes in the world and contain 21% of the Earth’s freshwater supply. Each book’s cover is inked in cobalt blue, featuring the lakes in an isometric triangle design, with the respective lake highlighted in silver. The inside of each book features detailed information about the lakes, along with maps of the surrounding cities and landmarks.
This new summer quarterly release also comes on the heels of the brand’s postcard series, inspired by the Teich & Co. linen cards from the turn of the 20th century. Field Notes embarked on a 1,300-mile road trip to take photographs which were then stylized to look like the iconic quasi-drawn postcards from the defunct Chicago company.
Like Field Notes’ other sets, the Great Lakes 2022 Summer Quarterly Edition is 5.5″ by 3.5″ in size. Sets of 5 are now available from the company’s website for $28, with quarterly subscriptions also available.
