Everyday Carry: Navy

As you may gather from the name’s suggestion, navy blue is called such for its association with the seafaring military branch. It existed before that, to be sure, but in the latter part of the 18th century the color became solidified in the military lexicon thanks to its use in the uniforms of officers in the British Royal Navy in 1748. Though originally called “marine blue,” it would go on to acquire its present moniker by around the mid-1800s and be adopted by other militaries around the world (including the United States) as a uniform standard for naval officers and enlisted men alike – especially in regards to dress uniforms. This week’s pocket dump draws inspiration from this historical military-inspired color while, as always, acting as an illustration of the versatility and variety of worthwhile everyday carry gear.
