Everyday Carry: Gold Standard

The phrase “gilding the lily,” while fairly commonplace, has a somewhat elusive origin story. That is to say, the phrase itself is a reference to one of Shakespeare’s lesser-known works, King John, though more as a paraphrase, for the colloquialism was never actually spoken verbatim in the play. Regardless, what it represents is still very much intact: that it is pointless to further adorn things that are already beautiful and/or perfect. Of course, we don’t always agree with that when the adornment serves a larger purpose. For instance, this week’s pocket dump is comprised of some truly wonderful everyday carry gear that would be top-tier in any color. However, when they’re all matched in gold and carried together, the loadout acquires a beautiful cohesion you’d otherwise not find. It might not be necessary to carry all of this golden EDC gear, but that doesn’t mean we’re not chomping at the bit for the chance.
