Only 70 Of These Carbon Fiber 415HP Ultralight Supercars Will Be Built

Founded in 1978, the small, performance-oriented automotive manufacturer Donkervoort was started from virtually nothing by its namesake, Joop Donkervoort. Now, the Dutch maven is 70 years old and, to celebrate, his brand has built him a birthday gift: a limited-edition supercar-killer called the Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70.

Only 70 of these cars are to be made — one for each year of Donkervoort’s long and fruitful life. Take a closer look at the D8 GTO-JD70’s sleek green facade and you’ll see that it’s made up entirely of carbon fiber. And it’s construction means the whole thing weighs just over 1,543 pounds — which is about the same as a common black-and-white Holstein cow. Better still, it’s equipped with a 2.5L turbocharged engine that gives it a breathtaking 415-horsepower. Mate the two together, and you’ve got a svelte road rocket that could send your eyeballs into the back of your skull. The brand is even saying this ride has such a great amount of agility that it could potentially break the 2G barrier — that’s double the force of Earth’s gravity. Details are still being finalized, but this missile-on-wheels is estimated to be priced around $181,000.
