Dodge’s Charger EV Concept Has a Fratzonic Exhaust for Muscle Car Sound

For muscle car lovers, there’s still hope that Dodge’s Charger will still see the light of day interpolated as an electric vehicle. Following the announcement that the Michigan-based marque would discontinue the American staple after next year, along with the Challenger, Dodge has now unveiled a concept model of the Charger, but without a V8 combustion engine.

The electric Charger Daytona SRT is given a new 800V Banshee propulsion system, making the vehicle faster and more powerful than Dodge’s supercharged, 700-plus-hp Hellcat. This bodes well for the fans and collectors who had been worried about the future of performance vehicles ever since the big news of the Charger’s discontinuation. And while they may not be getting the classic muscle car engine, they can at least receive similar numbers, even though the exact specs haven’t been given yet.

Some of you may find it odd that this new concept EV bears the Daytona nameplate since the model has only had sporadic releases over the years. But this is an homage to the 1969 Daytona that became the first NASCAR vehicle to break the 200mph limit on the track when driven by Buddy Baker. Like its progenitor, this new electric Daytona looks to change the game. Fusing EV trademarks such as the illuminated grill and taillight badges with the very design language that has helped make Dodge so iconic, the battery-powered car also sports a Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, which will make this the first of its kind to mimic a performance vehicle sound, with up to 126dB of growl — so long, silent EVs.

Tons of interior features will make this “muscle car” as futuristic as it is classic, yielding an all-around unique and immersive experience. As this is currently in its concept phase, no release details have been given yet, if at all.
