The camping industry is one that’s actually quite difficult to shake up, at least as it presently stands. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible, as evidenced by the new Crua Outdoors project, a modular hybrid rooftop-ground tent they’ve dubbed the AER.
At first glance, the AER might seem like this is just another rooftop tent designed for car camping. And while it definitely suits that purpose beautifully with its easy-to-erect format, dual support struts, collapsible ladder, spacious interior, and durable weatherproof 4-season construction, it can also do much more. For starters, it can be removed from its supportive honeycomb fiberglass base, transforming it into a ground tent — for those times, perhaps, when you don’t have a vehicle with suitable roof support. But it can also, most impressively, seamlessly integrate with Crua’s other tents, allowing users to combine multiple structures to create a kind of tent estate, the campground equivalent of a mansion. Available in two sizes (2-3-person and 4-5-person), this industry-disrupting multipurpose tent is on Indiegogo now starting at $1,849.
