Converse Resurrects An ‘80s Basketball Sneaker Legend In The Weapon CX

Back in the 1980s, the Converse Weapon was the shoe of choice for all of the NBA’s top players (for real, go and watch the old commercials). From Larry Bird and Magic Johnson to Kevin McHale and Isiah Thomas, everybody was rockin’ Weapons back in the day. And now Converse is bringing this legendary shoe back in a modern guise with the Weapon CX.

The new Converse Weapon CX looks an awful lot like the original Weapon from 1986, and it even sports the same trademark Y-bar for stability. But look closer and you’ll notice the proportions of the shoe have been exaggerated to give off a more contemporary streetwear aesthetic. The modernity continues as you venture beneath the shoe’s premium leather retro upper, where you’ll find some exciting new tech that didn’t exist in the ‘80s. There’s a thick cushioned midsole made from lightweight and comfortable CX foam, along with a reengineered outsole with rubber side pods that support your stride. Available in Black/Vintage White or White/Vintage White colorways, the reimagined Weapon CX is available from Converse for $120.
