Over the past year, we’ve seen the transformation of the traditional automotive tire into something much more capable. In regards to technology, the innovation of 3D-printed examples, self-regulating tread patterns, and smart integration has placed the drab, uninteresting peripheral in the limelight for future use; and now, Continental has revealed its visionary take on the new frontier of rubber.
The Continental ‘Conti C.A.R.E’ Smart Tire was recently revealed by the brand at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and serves to reignite the discussion around electronically-adept examples. It pairs with the company’s proprietary wheel, which houses a Connected, Autonomous, Reliable, and Electrified (C.A.R.E) computer system, centrifugal pump, and PressureBoost technology to monitor, regulate, and keep the tire’s pressure within recommended operating parameters. Alongside improved efficiency for road-faring motorists, Continental promises that the smart tire could eventually be used in autonomous vehicles to make tire-care a thing of the past.
