You might think that wearable exoskeletons are reserved for the likes of fictional comic book playboys who fight intergalactic crime, ala Tony Stark. However, the technology has been in development for years, especially with military, rehabilitation, and blue-collar applications in mind. The problem with most of them, especially in the latter case, is that they all require a power source and mechanical parts that can break down. However, that’s not an issue for the Comau MATE exoskeleton.
Designed specifically for blue-collar applications, e.g. workers in factories, the MATE does not have any motors, batteries, or fickle mechanical parts. Rather, it uses a simple spring-based passive structure to provide users with additional lift support, posture correction, and more comfort in day-to-day work. It’s also highly customizable, with two available sizes and five different adjustments to those sizes therein. The end result is one of the easiest to use exoskeletons on the market that’s also remarkably more cost-effective in the long run.
