Usually when you’re on the hunt for a new jacket you have two of three things to pick from; your outer shell can be either warm, flexible, or water repellent – but rarely all at the same time. Or at least that was the case before Columbia developed their new OutDry Ex Mogul Jacket.
Engineered using insight gained from nearly 8 years of designing uniforms for the U.S. Olympic Ski Team, this jacket boasts flexible insulation and top-tier waterproofing that won’t wear off with continued use. This is thanks to the application of a number of Columbia’s proprietary technologies like OutDry. Instead of placing a waterproof layer on the inside of the jacket’s fabric and giving it a chemical DWR treatment on the outside, they place a leathery-looking layer on the outside of the fabric – creating a totally waterproof shield. In addition to this, the Oregon-based outerwear brand also used 60-grams of Omni-Heat insulation and Omni-Heat reflective lining on the inside of the Ex Mogul jacket. Those two technologies combined with a 4-way stretch fabric and removable snow-skirt make this an incredibly dynamic, warm, and tough jacket for the coming Winter Olympics.
