Chargeboard Skateboard

The words “genius” and “skateboard” don’t often go together in the same sentence, but here’s one time where they do.

The Chargeboard is a fully functional longboard that has a docking station on its underbelly. The genius part here is that it generates its own electricity through two dynamos (6V each) in the rear axles and stores it right away into a powerbox (5V). One hour of skating creates enough juice to fully charge your smartphone, while the battery can hold enough energy for eight full charges. Designed by Bjorn van den Hout as his graduation project for the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, the Chargeboard is still in the prototype stage, but we’re hopeful it’ll eventually see production. It was designed for the iPhone 4 and 4S, though its external USB and 3.5mm audio jack lets it charge and play other devices as well. [Purchase]
