Caterpillar S60 Smartphone

Caterpillar, known for their larger-than-life construction equipment, recently entered the tech sphere and quickly turned up the heat with their new smartphone. The new item, the rugged and rough S60 designed for engineers and construction workers, features technology previously reserved for law enforcement and military personnel. We’re talking thermal cameras. That’s right, Caterpillar has a fully integrated FLIR camera alongside its standard rear camera built into each smartphone allowing the user to see in total darkness. Such a feature, however, doesn’t come without its shortcomings; meaning this phone isn’t exactly skinny and sleek. With a hefty 3,800 mAh battery and a die cast steel frame inside, the Caterpillar S60 measures a little over half an inch in thickness.

Then again, it wouldn’t deserve the Caterpillar name if it wasn’t a durable machine. The S60 boasts Gorilla Glass on top of its housing which enables it to survive a five-and-a-half foot drop onto hard concrete. Also, additional settings let this beast function while submerged 6-and-a-half feet of water for almost an hour straight. Needless to say, you won’t have to worry about a little rain damage. Already a highly anticipated product, the S60 appears set for its launch at the end of this month for the relatively reasonable price of $599. Pre-orders are now available. [Purchase]
