Getting into amateur racing can be an admittedly daunting and intimidating experience, with the endeavor requiring obtaining the proper safety credentials and race license(s), as well as adequate training and a track-ready vehicle. Well aware of this perceived barrier-to-entry, the UK’s Caterham Cars has announced its new Academy Race Package, an all-inclusive driver’s bundle that includes a new, prebuilt, turn-key Caterham Seven kit car, registration for Caterham’s Championship, and all of the training and certification needed to compete in the 22 car, single-model rookie race series.
The package includes a one-day racing driver license course, a car handling and inspection program, and a special pre-season test day. Adorned in a competition livery complete with a bevy of sponsor logos, the street-legal, track-ready vehicle sold in the bundle is based on the 127hp 1.6L Ford Sigma-engined Seven and features a five-speed gearbox, a Road & Race-spec suspension setup with multi-adjustable Bilstein shocks, 13” Apollo wheels shod in race rubber, FIA-certified rain lights, composite race seats with six-point race harness, RaceLogic instrumentation, a quick-release Momo steering wheel, an integrated fire extinguisher, and a padded Motor Sports Association-approved roll cage. Available now, the Caterham Seven Academy Championship Race Package is priced at approximately $40,565 (or £29,995), with the first track day scheduled at the legendary Silverstone Circuit on March 6, 2021.
