Associate Staff Writer

The Associate Staff Writer is an entry-level position that will offer significant opportunities to learn from industry veterans while getting to touch nearly every part of the organization. Taking a Swiss army knife approach, the editorial assistant will wear a lot of different hats. You’ll be responsible for researching and writing daily editorial pieces, calling in products samples, organizing editorial event calendars, and assisting in video and photoshoots across our web properties including our .com, YouTube channel, and social media accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Regular production of editorial stories which includes franchise pieces, snapshot news articles, product reviews, features and in-depth buyer’s guides
  • Strategize with team, pitching ideas, and conducting research on larger editorial pieces to help make HICONSUMPTION the best gear destination on the web
  • Monitor various information resources such as competitive publications, PR contacts, and social media for noteworthy news and coverage opportunities
  • Assist video team with scripts, voice-overs, editorial coordination, and serving as on-camera representative
  • Contact brands to access review samples and coordinate their delivery and return
  • Work alongside management to make sure our standard operating procedures and company documents are accurate and up-to-date
  • Serve as an ambassador for the company while attending press events in Los Angeles and beyond
  • Manage editorial events calendar, and coordinate coverage with senior management
  • Manage vendor contact sheets for brands and PR contacts to ensure all partner contacts are accurate and up to date

Requirements

  • Passion for well-designed, well-built gear – above all else
  • Excellent grammar skills with a diverse vocabulary and proficient at spelling
  • The ability to perform in-depth research on anything men’s gear related
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable receiving constructive criticism
  • Loves working in a team environment
  • Must meet deadlines and have strong prioritization & time management skills
  • Experience multitasking and tracking several projects simultaneously
  • Strong, creative eye for images that will tell the story and visually sell on social media
  • Witty and quick to develop enticing article headlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Photoshop skills are required
  • WordPress (or similar CMS) experience is a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Previous writing/editorial experience preferred
