Back in 2017, a startup by the name of Mollusc debuted a ground-breaking tent in which users could open and close its domed canopy much like a clamshell. Unfortunately, for all of the product’s innovation, the campaign never reached its fundraising goal, and the project was put on indefinite hold.
Now, after more than four years, a bit of rebranding, and some extra working capital, Mollusc’s creation is back — only this time it’s known as the Campo Designs Escape M4. Like its predecessor, the tent features fully retractable coverage, allowing you to go from total privacy to maximum ventilation in a matter of seconds. What’s more, it offers six different positions so that you can customize your camping experience exactly to your needs, dialling in your airflow based on the time of day. However, where the Mollusc Nano clocked in at some 55lbs altogether, the Escape M4 more than halves that number, weighing just 22lbs with its accompanying carrying bag. When you consider that it assembles in as little as 10 minutes, sleeps up to four adults, and can be positioned practically anywhere without guylines, the result is a tent that’s sure to redefine your camping experience. Back it on Kickstarter for $299.
