Back in 2018, American heritage brand Buck Knives launched its Buck of the Month program, offering limited-edition versions of its USA-made products to its most fervent fans. While the edition size has risen since the initial 100-piece release to anywhere between 500 and 1,000, these premium knives still sell out incredibly fast.

For its November 2022 Buck of the Month, Buck takes on its ever-popular 931 Chef’s KnifeThe 10 Best American-Made Chef Knives of 2022 — the first culinary release for the program this year — swapping the usual 420HC stainless steel blade for a 12C27M Sandvik steel that’s been BOS heat-treated and satin finished. Likewise, the Rosewood DymaLux or Slate PaperStone handle options of the standard 931 have been subbed out for this new genuine ebony handle that’s nearly indestructible.

Buck had originally introduced ebony wood handles in the ‘60s but was forced to discontinue its use by the ‘90s since the source had become endangered. However, for this special release, the company has teamed up with Taylor Guitars for ebony responsibly sourced from the latter’s conservation project.
