With a history spanning back nearly two-and-a-half centuries, Bowmore is undeniably one of the most significant Scottish distilleries on the planet. And though the company and the world it inhabits have experienced drastic changes and new ideas and technologies, certain aspects of Bowmore’s production and operations remain rooted squarely in the past, with age-old traditions that have been passed down to each new generation of Bowmore distillers. And it’s this element of tradition that the whisky brand is celebrating with its latest release, the Bowmore Timeless Series.
The series is comprised of two bottles, the first of which is a 27-year blend with a 52.7% ABV that’s spent 15 years in Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks before being finished in first-fill Oloroso butts for another dozen years, while the second is a 31-year single malt with a 45.4% ABV that’s matured ex-Bourbon casks for 29-years and then transferred to Spanish Oak Matusalem Sherry seasoned butts for another two. Each unit comes inside a special hourglass-shaped black box that contains a 27 or 31-year bottle, along with a three-minute hourglass — Bowmore’s suggested amount of time to enjoy the nose of these elite single malts. Available now and limited to 3,000 bottles each, the Bowmore Timeless Series 27-Year and 31-Year Scotch Whiskys priced at $1,525 and $2,100, respectively.
