BMW R1200R ‘Eddie 21’ by VTR Customs

As a tribute to American racing legend Eddie Lawson, the crew over at Switzerland-based VTR Customs decided to go with a canvas that many of those who remember the legendary rider couldn’t picture him riding even if they tried. We’re talking about BMW R1200R. Strange considering famous Eddie’s preferred ride was an AMA Kawasaki Z1000. So, out of respect, they decided to model this BMW boxer off the style of that bike.

In order to properly emulate the style, the beemer needed to feature squared lines and a Z-style tail that’s been scaled down. They began by building the tailpiece in-house since they handle all their metal work in the shop, and worked to modify the standard R1200R airbag and stock gas tank. The end result would feature the classic Z1000 paint style, a large racing number plate on the front of the bike and on the sides of the tank, a Kerker-style exhaust system in addition to a slew of high-quality racing parts. Also, how about a set of Kineo custom wheels wrapped in Bridgestone racing tires, an Ohlins rear shock, an Akrapovic Titan downpipe with a Unit Garage muffler (which shoots flames out the can when quick shifting through gears) for the exhaust, and BMW HP racing footrests? Quite the ride indeed, and we’re pretty sure “Steady Eddie” would approve of this one as well.
