Widely recognized as the first true adventure motorcycle model, BMW’s R80G/S quickly proved its performance capabilities to the world with a slew of victories at the Dakar Rally in 1981, ’83, ’84, and ’85. And while it’s no longer a competitive cutting-edge machine, the R80G/S continues to have a profound influence on modern moto culture, as evidenced by the latest one-off work from VTR Customs, a new BMW R nineT Urban GS that’s been transformed into a neo-retro tribute to the Bavarian rally raid weapon.
The Schmerikon shop has treated the boxer twin to a full PARIS DAKAR GR86 bolt-on bodywork kit from Italy’s UN1T Garage, resulting in the build’s new front fender, tank cover, tail cowl, headlight shroud, and a competition-style number board. Other details include heated grips, cruise control, an upgraded adaptive cornering headlight, DRLs, a chrome-plated exhaust manifold, a bespoke seat, Kellerman LED indicators, billet Rizoma mirrors, and a two-into-one-into-two high-mount exhaust setup. Rounding out the build is a replica Marlboro race livery complemented via red framework and gold rims, all collectively furthering the build’s old school G/S influence. This R9T-based Dakar tribute from VTR Customs is currently available for purchase in Switzerland with an asking price of approximately $27,000.
