One of the best parts of most tactical style backpacks is their modularity. Most include some kind of webbing system (be it MOLLE or otherwise) to which you can attach extra packs to expand the bag’s carry capacity. But those kinds of bags are a bit aggressive and cumbersome to carry with you in an urban environment. Luckily, the folks at Black Ember have taken that same modular approach to their new Citadel backpack.

The sleek and modern appearance of these bags are for more than just fashion – they’re actually crafted from an IPX6 waterproof-rated 800D micro-hex 3-layer textile (which was water-jet tested). And the expandable grin on the exterior is made up of laser-cut, bonded, and bar tack-reinforced Hypalon, as are the easy-pull zippers. And it comes with aircraft-grade hardware, tuck-away 3D shoulder straps, and a comprehensive organizational system that includes space for a laptop, water bottle, all of your accessories, and a good deal more. You can even purchase add-on accessories directly from the brand. Or, if you like the bag but don’t care about modularity and expandability, there’s also a minimalist version.
