Just because you want to head off the grid for a weekend away in the wilderness doesn’t mean you have to get all minimalistic about it. Take this souped-up Mercedes Unimog from Germany-based Bimobil for example. It’s the ultimate off-road/camping companion getting you safely to just about any location on the planet -from the unforgiving deserts to the high-altitude snow-driven mountain terrain of the Swiss Alps.

Since the EX 435 is based off the Unimog, each backcountry beast boasts the same all-wheel-drive setup, the same differential lock and powerful 170kW/231hp engine that’s both quiet and economical while managing to put out up to 664 lb-ft of torque. On the inside exists a whole different story. It’s comforting, homey, and, dare we say elegant. You’re enclosed within water-resistant plywood and surrounded by a full kitchen, bathroom, and dinette along with ample storage for your camping and hiking gear. The mattress also rises into the ceiling when not in use, freeing up extra space in the process. And of course, a handful of outlets, a 300 L freshwater tank, and 100L wastewater tank are at your disposal as well. Prices start at $300,000.
